Clearly, they wanted to finish the job.

The damage to the store is evident from afar, where shattered glass from smashed windows is sprayed all over the concrete, glistening like jewels in the early morning sun. The door hangs limply ajar, the OUT TO LUNCH sign blowing ever so slightly in the wind. A keyring with several keys sits next to the open door, splayed apart like a fan. Either way, given the gaping hole in the window, it’s a little unlikely that anyone would need keys to get into the building any longer.

Stepping inside the store reveals nothing short of a train wreck, a childish tableau of violence and colour. Candy jars lay smashed on the floor, their contents spilled out like the entrails of some confectionary-filled beast. Streaks of powdered sugar and spilled lottery tickets tell a tale of what had happened: someone had come into this corner store on a mission, and had clearly struggled along the way. In the corner, a magazine rack rests precariously on a stool, having fallen at some point in the night, tabloids filled with the latest gossip dangling by their pages. An eerie chill clings close to the tiled floor, emanating from the fridge at the back that the culprit (or culprits) had thrown open.

What took the brunt of the damage, however, were the closed-circuit cameras lining the walls of the store, hanging limply from the ceiling with their cords cut and lenses smashed open. Evidently, whomever ransacked the store wanted to leave no evidence behind, cutting off the eyes of the store in an eerily clinical fashion.

The body rests near the opened cash register, slumped over with one hand over the counter and an array of cigarettes and chocolates for sale behind them. Had it not been for the disaster-like state of the store, one would merely think that the proprietor of the store had been sleeping from afar: after all, they were known for working intensely long hours, and a nap or two wouldn’t have been so out of the question.

The presence of blood immediately quashes that theory.

Blood can be seen on the countertop, the floor, and the cash register, the dollar bills inside stained a dark red. Upon inspection of the body, several wounds can be seen: whoever had attacked had stabbed the owner of the store right through the leg with a long knife after repeatedly stabbing them in the back, pinning them quite literally behind the wooden counter. In addition, sugar and glass in their hair and bleeding from the nose and mouth suggested a death through blunt-force trauma or head injury, if not multiple stab wounds. The guilty party had clearly wanted a brutal demise.

Behind the body of the owner, a small yellowed photograph can be seen. In it is a large, smiling family: a grandfather, a father, and a child covered in bandages standing in front of a store – the corner store. Despite its age, the frame implies that the photograph has been well-taken of over the years, and you wonder whether or not this was what kept the owner going.

To live and die in this store.

That’s what their parents would have wanted, wouldn’t they?

drandahl was stunned!

eleni has been killed. They were town. A third-generation resident of ◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙, eleni was the owner of the family-owned local corner store, a fixture of ◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙ for many years. Eleni will be remembered as a hardworking individual who strived to provide only the best goods and services for the townsfolk, and will be deeply missed by all. Predeceased by grandparents ◙◙◙◙◙◙◙ & ◙◙◙◙◙◙◙ and parents ◙◙◙◙◙◙ & ◙◙◙◙◙◙◙. They leave no next of kin. There will be no visitation or funeral.

from what I can tell based on the thread+messages I've gotten there's at least three starting locations? probably more.

ok but did it ever cross your mind that it might have actually been a woman's footprint instead of a men's before my comment? Or did the information you gathered lead u to automatically believe that those were a man's footprints?

... Eleni posted like... twice since the game started and one of them was just "no lynch". Interesting choice. UH...

I received three messages last night.

The first was from our resident mayoral campaign manager. I think I know who they are based on writing style and their suggested candidates, and don't really have much to say about them otherwise. They left me some useful information along with their propaganda.

The third was from the person I have been sending my messages to.

To the person who sent me the second message:

I don't know who you are (but I could narrow it down to maybe like 5 people), but I believe you're town based on the contents of your message and the fact that you came to me for advice. I think you should trust your own instincts rather than passing the responsibility off onto someone else. You don't know who is town and who is mafia, but you know you yourself are town.

I'll be honest, I'm getting the same vibes as you are, and I don't think it's a bad idea for you to go through with it, but I also don't want to be the one responsible if it backfires so... ya know, go with your gut. Maybe even wait it out for a little bit and see if anything new pops up to make you change your mind, but I don't think you should leave this up to someone else. U can do it anonymous little mafia player. I believe in u!!

First of all, use of suger and candy is scary as someone that works in a candy store.

I got a message last night saying something along the lines leave cans where they are.

I had a plan to search for information about a certain thing, but maybe I should change it for now. Should I go search for the info or go investagate this new murder?

OH yeah that's true, I wonder if we'll be able to go to the candy store now in our adventures. Maybe not in our scenarios, but players that have actual active abilities that investigate things (if there are even any of those roles in the game).

I haven't found any information at all. No footprints belonging to creepy children, men/women, or teenagers. No ghosts of a woman, and nothing to do with 1916. I'm just not looking in the right places maybe.

Drandahl is currently the only one that could not have killed Eleni at this current point in time, given the stun.

I am just as baffled by Eleni being targeted by the mafia to be killed. It feels like a rather random choice to me, given how little she spoke.

I did not receive any messages last night.

Question about claiming locations and stuff came up, so here's a more in-depth list of things you can/can't do.

You can:

  • Mention information you found through scenarios as long as you don't say where you found it or how you found it.
  • Say relative things like "I think I'm in the same place as [other player]"
  • Describe things around you ("There is blood here" = okay)

Please don't:

  • Fully describe your location ("I'm surrounded by squeaky toys and statues that look like dogs wearing hats and there are exactly six trees here and one of the trees has drawings of dogs carved into the trunk" etc. etc.)
  • Give specific location names, or try to bypass this rule by saying things like "the place that rhymes with..." etc.
  • List out the choices available to you
  • Explain how to get from one location to another
  • Hint at how to get specific items

To be honest, you're not going to break the game by claiming locations. Anything that breaks the game we have specific rules about, or is something preventable on our end when handling PMs. The current claiming rules are a little stricter than they need to be gameplay-wise to keep the exploration aspect of the game interesting, and as mentioned in a previous post, they keep everyone from gunning for the same items.

Eleni being the nk does give credit to the idea that maf kills are location based. the maf are gonna kill whoever they have access to.

To piggyback on Kiyoko's post: if you're ever unsure of what exactly you can and can't claim, always feel free to ask either of us ahead of time to clear your messages!

Really, the main reason why the rules about locations are the way they are is to keep the game fun, and to prevent people from being able to game the locations in such a way that specific items can be stockpiled quickly. It's also a way to shift location speculation to messaging, and one of our goals as Kiyoko said is:

Kiyoko wrote:We want people to be able to work together to solve mysteries, with the tradeoff that they can only communicate in a limited fashion and may not know who they can trust.

e: Also yeah, please don't do things to circumvent the rules like

  • rearranging host text into a different order while still retaining the same words and then including a solution key
  • using codes or rhymes to express things you're not allowed to say
