As for the games I listed:
Guns of Icarus puts you on a steampunk airship, one of four crew members who split duties between pilot, gunner(s), and engineer(s). The airships are customizable, and whoever is captain gets to use one of their own ships. Each ship is part of a team of 2-4 ships, and you go up against an equal number of enemy ships. In that regard, it's your standard team deathmatch game...yet, the setup of he crews makes it so much more. Unlike other team based PvP games, one player on their own can't carry a team, can't go off on their own. One ship, maybe, but that still requires constant communication and coordination amongst the crew, as the pilot weaves left, right, up, and down through hails of gunfire, vision-obscuring clouds, collosal mountains and structures, and even a debiltating sandstorm. And during all that the gnner is constantly going from gun to gun, trying to get the right weapon, the right angle, the right ammo, just whatever it takes to take down the other bastard before they and their crew get sent on a one-way trip downward And dont get me started on the engineers...those guys run off of sweat, tears, duct tape, and prayers, flying across the ship to keep every damn thing working.
The Civilization games...less exciting. And yeah, Jaiser and I almost never finish our games, and actually find the pre-industrial years by far more fun. Still, we've been dying to make it more than just him, me, and the mercurial AI leaders for a long time now. Just, the biggest problem to drawing most people isn't the monetary investment, but the time investment. Still, if any of you like turn-based strategy, long-term planning, and/or history, you might find these games a lot of fun too. :D
As for Guild Wars 2...I feel bad I'm still only at level 40. :( I keep meaning to log in and level up, I do, but it keeps getting pushed back! :( Sorry, Kiyo...though, believe it or not, still plan to getting to 8 someday, heh. I still have fond memories of the one time you took me through a dungeon...I was aggravated at first, so much death, but the we got in the swing of things.
Never played Hearthstone, though I've been curious...
A friend at work got me into League of Legends. At level 25, and now that I'm nearly at max level...noticing the players I'm with becoming more and more toxic. Hence why I've been doing ARAM exclusively these days. I'd do the standard game with a group of friends, sure!...but now my work buddy, the one that got me into it, has quit the game.
I considered mentioning Minecraft! Who doesn't love the game?
...
Well, okay I don't, find it "meh" at best (heresy, I know), but I'm always down for dicking around in it with friends. :D
