I've been telling people I wanted to host a Harry Potter game for ages but never managed to figure out a setup for it until now. I'll flesh this post out later and give it some nice BBcode and images but here's a rough skeleton for now. I'm probably gonna run this as a minigame after distortion because I want it to be a hot mess.

No, but there may be minor spoilers, and players who are aware of the characters in the story may have an advantage when it comes to guessing at the abilities or alignments of others.

This game is based off the Second Wizarding War with events loosely lining up with the events of the seventh book. There are two main factions: Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix (and OotP sympathizers I guess). While there are no neutral parties, each character will have a personal win condition which may or may not (depending on the character) allow them to play as neutral.

Death Eaters win when Harry Potter is vanquished. This is not as simple as it sounds. During the night phase, each Death Eater can send in a vote to the host for who they want to NK. Majority target is killed. Voldemort's vote is tiebreaker.

The Order of the Phoenix wins when Voldemort is vanquished. This is not as simple as it sounds.

Every role will be based directly off a character from the books. Abilities and win conditions will be known only to the player with that role. Character names will be revealed upon death, but abilities will not. I may or may not list all of the character names on the front page or I may just leave them all closed-role.

Due to the prevalence of Polyjuice Potion, Invisibility Cloaks and Disillusionment Charms, Confundus Charms and the Imperius Curse, it is remarkably easy to infiltrate one anothers' ranks. As such, Death Eaters will not be aware of one another, nor will they have their own PM alliance.

During the night, players can do any and all of the following:

> Take their role action (if applicable)
> Send one message to one player
> Cast one spell (if possible)

Every player, both Death Eaters and OotP, will be able to send one message to a player of their choice per night. Normal letters will be sent anonymously; players are welcome to append or forge whatever signature they would like.

In addition, various roles may have additional messaging capabilities, which may have extra security (e.g. Patronus messaging). Additionally, roles may have ways of eavesdropping, altering, or otherwise tampering with messages.

As long as a player has a wand, they will be able to cast one out of a pool of spells. All players will begin with a wand and may or may not end up with one. All spells and their effects will be listed on the front page and I don't have them planned out yet but as an example:

Avada Kadavra - Kill a player (probably gonna restrict this some)
Expelliarmus - Force a player to drop their wand, preventing them from casting spells (but not blocking their role ability) for that night phase and the following night phase
Imperio - 25% chance of taking control of a player. When a player is under your control, you can force them to cast spells (provided they have a wand) of your choice on your target, and you can control their vote. This effect lasts one day and one night phase. Players under imperius cannot use items or active role abilities, though passive ones may still be in effect.
Priori Incantato - Learn the last spell a player used
Protego - Protect a player
Stupefy - Stun a player, preventing them from sending messages, casting spells, and using their role ability

Maybe more, maybe less, idk we'll see what I decide to do with this

This may be a thing. It depends on the ratio. My thought was to have certain Death Eaters represent Horcruxes so that Death Eaters can't just go on arbitrary killing sprees and offing their own.

But regardless of whether or not I have other Death Eaters take custody of Horcruxes, I can guarantee that there will be at least one in the game.

More to come later. Feedback and questions welcome, though I won't switch gears to this game in full until after I'm done with the other game I'm working on.
