I'm thinking of a game where the players are trying to settle a new village, and build it up into a kingdom.

Each night phase, players would be presented with an issue in the kingdom, and vote to decided how to resolve it. These choices would greatly impact both the players, and future options.

Because every player starts as a Neutral. And each player would have a Neutral Win Condition, a Village Condition (that would change their Alignment to Town if it is fulfilled), and a Mafia Condition (that would change their Alignment to Mafia if it is fulfilled).

The Mafia Conditions would be structured so that some of mutually exclusive with each other, so that the game isn't flooded with mafia.

The game wouldn't necessarily end when the Town outnumbered the mafia, or all the mafia were eliminated, either, since more Mafia/Town might be later created. Instead, each side would either have its own Victory condition, or perhaps a Game End condition.


So, to give an example of the kind of decisions you are facing, your first choice would probably be what kind of land you are settling.

Do you want to settle near mountains, and becoming a kingdom dependent on mining? Or in the plains and become a breadbasket nation? Or perhaps settle at the mouth of a major river and become a port and a major trading hub.

If you picked mountains for mining, then perhaps one of the Neutrals would have a background in mining, and easily find work, becoming Town. Someone else might be a Blacksmith, and the availability of cheap metal and demand for mining tools would suit them well, and they would turn into Town as well. Meanwhile, a third person might see this as a perfect opportunity to take up a life of banditry, and become Mafia.

Then everyone who had their Mafia Condition tied to settling in on the Plains or near the ocean could no longer be mafia.

So basically it's not really a mafia game, and just a different kind of forum game since it doesn't have the traditional goals of a mafia game.

The mechanism of lynches and night kills still exist. Many of the roles would still potentially appear, if the right choices are made (jailer, role cop, doctor),. The traditional goals of eliminating the other side would be preserved, just with slight modifications to account for the ratio changing, and prevent one side facing sudden death early in the game.
